On Feb. 29, at 12 p.m., the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Group on Research, Education, and Training (GREAT) Postdoctoral Training Section will hold a webinar to discuss the potential value of a postdoctoral experience and highlight the importance of identifying an opportunity that best fits your individual professional needs and goals. The Group on Research, Education, and Training (GREAT) provides professional development to, and fosters the exchange of information and ideas among the faculty and administrative leaders of biomedical PhD, MD-PhD, and postdoctoral programs.

From addressing skill deficits to building independence to establishing professional networks, an academic postdoc can provide many positive benefits for an individual’s career. These benefits are not only limited to preparation for tenure-track careers: indeed, an academic postdoc can provide a unique opportunity for professional growth and transition to a myriad of career options. But to reap these benefits, you must choose the right postdoc with the right mentor. 

This session, hosted by the AAMC GREAT Postdoctoral Training Section, will overview the potential value of postdoctoral experience and highlight the importance of identifying an opportunity that best fits your individual professional needs and goals. Specifically, this informational session and panel discussion will cover the following topics:

  2. 2) the types of careers that value postdoctoral experience; 
  3. 3) how an academic postdoc can prepare you for various career options; and 4) how you can find and land the RIGHT postdoc for you.
