ACCELERATE: Accelerating HSR at OSU

Public Health Relevance - Our proposed T32 training program, ACCELERATE: Accelerating HSR at OSU, will prepare the next generation of researchers for careers in health services research. ACCELERATE will match experienced mentors with exceptional postdoctoral trainees in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment at one of the most diverse colleges of medicine in the country. With a foundational emphasis on health equity, our trainees will be equipped to address the most pressing issues in the delivery of healthcare, using data and innovative processes to help people increase their well-being and access to affordable, safe, and effective care throughout their lives.

Student Urinary Tract Program in Education and Research (SUPER) Summer Training Program

Public Health Relevance - This proposal seeks to provide a transformative 12-week summer research program for medical and graduate students that will encourage them to pursue careers in kidney and urinary tract related research and clinical programs. Molecular biophysics predoctoral training at the Ohio State University

Public Health Relevance - We propose a Molecular Biophysics Training Program (MBTP) that leverages the research and training experience of 27 faculty Trainers in three colleges and eight departments to create a unique training experience at the crossroads of the quantitative, molecular, and biomedical sciences. Students from three different graduate programs and many different backgrounds will have the opportunity to interact with and learn from each other and from the many experienced Trainers. This training will prepare graduates to address the biomedical challenges of the twenty--first century with truly collaborative and comprehensive approaches that address pressing needs in career development and inclusion of diverse groups.

Vision Science Training Program

Public Health Relevance - Ocular and visual health are critical to independence and maintenance of quality of life. Short Term Training: Students in Health Professional Schools

Public Health Relevance - The OSU College of Optometry T35 program has trained 164 students in 19 years. These students published 195 scientific abstracts and 59 peer-reviewed manuscripts, 82 received MS degrees, five received PhD degrees, four are currently in PhD programs, and four have participated in NIH awards. Support of the program will continue to develop optometrists who conduct independent vision research.

Advanced Research Training in Immunology for Surgery Trainees (ARTIST)           

Public Health Relevance - Optimal outcomes after surgery may be impaired due to immune mechanisms which cause tissue injury or interfere with healing. The goal of this program is to inspire and train the next generation of surgeon-scientists who will lead immunology research focused on solutions for clinical problems relevant to tissue injury, repair, regeneration and replacement. Discoveries by these surgeon-scientists are anticipated to lead to new tools for diagnosis or prognosis of immune-mediated diseases and also to new immunotherapies which improve surgical outcomes.

Public Health Relevance - Project Narrative The Multidisciplinary Research Training in Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Sciences (MARTDOCS) program is designed to train the next generation of basic and clinical research faculty in dental, oral, and craniofacial research. This comprehensive program is built on the strong foundation of more than 20 years of successful training of PhD, DDS-PhD, and postdoctoral scholars by the OSU College of Dentistry Oral Biology Graduate Program (OBGP) and its partner programs in the OSU College of Medicine, the Biomedical Science Graduate Program (BSGP) and Neuroscience Graduate Program (NSGP). New RCR course meets NIH and NSF requirements

The Office of Research has developed a new credit-earning course to meet National Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Science Foundation (NSF) requirements for training in the responsible and ethical conduct of research (RCR). GRADSCH 8000: Responsible Conduct of Research (Course ID 37106) will provide a practical overview of the rules, regulations and professional practices that define the responsible conduct of research.
