From Department of Biomedical Engineering
The Ohio State University’s Biomedical Engineering Graduate Student Association (BMEGSA) members organized an outreach event for elementary and middle school students at Windsor STEM Academy, a local public school in Columbus, Ohio.
Through their outreach event, BMEGSA aimed to bring fun and educational science-based activities to students within the Columbus community. Around 10 members of Ohio State’s BMEGSA worked the outreach event where they taught 4-7th graders about polymers and polymer formation through a slime making experiment.
“We are excited to engage with the community and to help bring fun science activities to elementary school students. We enjoy collaborating with the community and helping to spread the fun of science,” said Co-President of BMEGSA, Annie Ryan.
BMEGSA is an active graduate student organization in OSU’s Department of Biomedical Engineering. The organization holds community building events, such as BBQ’s, game nights, and parties, as well as scholarly events, like student seminar series presentations, and a graduate student favorite: “Coffee with Professors.” BME@OSU is a much richer department because of BMEGSA’s efforts, as is the local Columbus community for outreach events like their recent outreach at Windsor STEM Academy.
