Campus Conversation on Graduate Education Summit

Scott Herness
Interim Vice Provost for Graduate Studies and
Interim Dean of the Graduate School

Earlier this week, I sent invitations to all graduate faculty, graduate students, and graduate program coordinators for the Campus Conversation on Graduate Education Summit on May 3, 8:30-noon.

I encourage you to attend. You will hear about the findings to date from the year-long project, and you will be able to lend your voice to help plan Ohio State’s direction for graduate education over the next 10 years.

Doors open at 8 a.m., and we will serve refreshments.

Register for the Summit

Initiated at the request of Provost McPheron in autumn 2016 and organized by the Graduate School, the Campus Conversation is engaging key stakeholders in conversations about the future of graduate education at Ohio State.

Erroneous Fee Authorizations

Students appointed as graduate associates or fellows during spring 2017 may see an erroneous summer and/or fall fee authorization on their account. Student accounts do not accurately reflect fee authorizations until two weeks prior to the start date of their next term's appointment. For example, students whose appointments will terminate at the end of spring will not have their termination reflected on their statement of account until two weeks prior to the effective date.

Alternatively, students whose appointments begins in summer will not see this appointment reflected in their account until two weeks prior to the effective date.

Please advise students of this and let them know to continue to monitor their statements of account. If student have any questions regarding their fellowship or GA appointment, they can always refer to their original award letter or appointment document.

Pre-arrival Communications: International Graduate Students

The Graduate School and the Office of International Affairs are collaborating on a series of customized e-newsletters to welcome incoming international graduate students to Ohio State.

The e-newsletters cover arrival preparation, immigration documents, academic integrity, and general information to help them acclimate to Ohio State during their first days on campus. The first newsletter was sent this week.

Incoming international graduate students will receive these communications weekly, and they will be archived on OIA's website for easy access.
