The Graduate School and Office of Postdoctoral Affairs are pleased to announce that the President’s Postdoctoral Scholars Program (PPSP) 2024 competition is now open! PPSP recognizes highly qualified postdocs who will become leaders in their fields. The program supports the scholarly efforts and training of terminal degree holders (MFA, PhD, and others) who wish to pursue careers in research and creative inquiry, as well as providing professional development and networking opportunities.
Program Overview:
- Salary support and full benefits provided by the Office of the President and the scholar’s faculty mentor, hiring department, and sponsor college.
- Funds from the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs to support research, creative expression, and professional development-related expenses.
Submission Deadlines:
- Monday, December 2, 2024, 11:59 PM EST – Forms of Intent due.
- Please ensure that you discuss your nomination with your college liaison at least two weeks before this deadline so that they have time to consider your request.
- Friday, December 20, 2024, 11:59 PM EST – Full nomination package due for qualifying individuals.
Important Considerations:
- The PPSP award is for two years. Colleges will have to provide assurance that there is a commitment to fund the awardee for a full two years.
- This is a collaborative initiative. While the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs provides funds to cover 66% of the PPSP Scholar’s salary and benefits, the remaining 34% must be covered by the proposed faculty mentor(s), hiring unit, and/or sponsor college. In addition to the partial salary support provided, OPA also provides $5,000 per year towards research and creative inquiry and professional development activities. See funding details on the PPSP website.
- Though not a requirement, ideal faculty mentors are those who have some experience mentoring postdoctoral scholars and trainees. Co-mentors are encouraged for anyone who does not have much experience mentoring postdoctoral scholars and trainees. See the eligibility criteria section for more information. Co-mentors should be faculty at Ohio State University.
- The nominating faculty must have a conversation with their college liaison and discuss the funding plan before submitting the form of intent. Please have this conversation at least two weeks before the Form of Intent deadline to give your college liaison time to respond.
- PPSP Scholars who are selected must be hired into Post Doctoral Scholar (Job Code 8806) roles in departments and hiring units at Ohio State. No exceptions will be made to this policy in the upcoming cycle.
Postdoc Candidate Eligibility and Requirements:
- Candidates who are nominated must have received their terminal degree within the past 2 years; or if they are still in training, must receive their terminal degree before the proposed start date submitted in the form of intent.
- Candidates who are already hired as postdoctoral scholars at Ohio State must have been hired no earlier than December 1, 2022.
- Candidates must be able to start their PPSP Scholar training at Ohio State between July 1, 2025 and January 5, 2026.
- All citizenship types are eligible to participate in this program (US citizens and permanent residents as well as international scholars)
- All scholarly disciplines are eligible to participate in this program.
