  • International Cooperative Graduate Degree Proposal Process Update - Message from the Graduate School and Office of International Affairs

    Dear Graduate Programs,

We are pleased to announce the implementation of new policies for proposing the development of International Dual Degree Programs at The Ohio State University. These policies are designed to streamline the process and ensure that our programs meet the highest standards of academic excellence and international collaboration.  The most notable of these changes is to relocate the International Cooperative Graduate Degree Agreement within the Office of International Affairs (OIA).

Effective immediately, all proposals for new International Dual Degree Programs must adhere to updated Graduate School Curriculum Guidelines and OIA workflow.  OIA will initiate the review process for these programs; therefore, all components of International Dual Degree Programs will be submitted to OIA.  OIA will forward the curricular proposal to the Graduate School.  The Graduate School Curriculum Guidelines provide comprehensive instructions on the necessary components and approval processes for establishing these programs.  As you begin to develop such a proposal, please be aware that there are necessary personnel involved in the proposal process including the Dean and/or Associate Dean of the Graduate School, College Curricular Dean, Department Chair, Graduate Studies Chair, College Liaison for International Education, and a member of the International Partnerships team from the Office of International Affairs.

The proposal process involves two critical components that should be undertaken simultaneously: the International Cooperative Graduate Degree Agreement and the International Cooperative Graduate Degree Program Proposal. The agreement is a formal contract between Ohio State and the international partner, while the program proposal focuses on creating a curriculum based on an existing Ohio State degree program.

Faculty interested in proposing an International Dual Degree Program are encouraged to consult with OIA and the Graduate School Handbook for detailed information on admission, course load, good standing, reasonable progress, and degree requirements. Additionally, it is recommended to meet with the key personnel early in the process to ensure a smooth and efficient proposal submission.

For any questions or further assistance, please contact Graduate Curriculum Services at grad-schoolcurriculum@osu.edu and internationalagreements@osu.edu.

We look forward to your innovative proposals and the continued growth of our international collaborations.
